about

Sásta is the Irish word for “happy”, and also for “satisfied”.  Sásta, of course, has great relevance for those of us who practice yoga in Ireland! I love this word because of the depth implied. It’s not just a surface, giddy sort of happy. It’s a centered, nourishing, content sort of happy. Sásta is one of the things we find with the regular practice of yoga, and really reflects my yoga style. It’s about the quality of experience, the joy of practice, the exploration of yourself on all levels and welcoming whatever you find. I love the physical challenge of Vinyasa, but temper it with seeking to understand what our bodies are saying, what would be most beneficial, and finding that centering sásta state….You will develop a strong yet focused mind, and greater physical strength and flexibility.
Yoga is for everybody, of all different philosophies and physical abilities. Yoga is a Sanskrit word meaning “joining” or “uniting”, referring to the union of body, mind and breath through this practice. For example, through the action of grounding the focus in the practice the mind becomes quiet, helping to release stress and tension. This release improves the physical state, allowing muscles to move more freely and effectively. Likewise, when the body is fully engaged in a yoga posture, the mind is drawn into the body and the connection of body and mind is strengthened. This helps one focus on what is present and real, considering situations with calm analysis and less stress.
Our style of yoga is based in Vinyasa, which means there is strong physical focus. This can be used for helping to recover from injury, or simply improving physical strength, flexibility and mental focus. Skilled athletes, such as surfers, martial artists and dancers, have recently become aware of the added performance they gain through yoga. This is because it helps develop awareness of how the body responds to mental commands, and helps one become aware of any physical tendencies.Yet yoga is equally beneficial for seniors or people recovering from injury, as it helps regain supple joints, strength, and better coordination.
Come and explore!

About Sara Cory, owner Sásta Yoga Studio

Hello, Aloha, and Namaste! My name is Sara Cory. I was born and raised in Northern California, and have lived in or traveled much of America’s West Coast; Hawaii,Seattle, California’s Sierra Mountains and the Bay Area to name a few. I am grateful to have been exposed to such beautiful country and diverse culture, and these experiences have stoked my fire of exploration, curiosity and gratitude for everything this world has to offer.
I grew up playing Irish fiddle and have been returning to my grandmother’s birthplace of Ireland since my youth.  I immigrated to the West of Ireland in 2007 and have finally found a place with all the things I love; surfing, Irish music, jiu jitsu, wild fresh countryside, and (best of all) Yoga!

My yoga journey started in Hawaii seven years ago with Bikram Yoga, and I quickly grew to explore the traditions of Ashtanga, Hatha, and modern Vinyasa styles like Yoga For Surfers, Core Strength Vinyasa and Anusara. I am so happy to find a high standard of yoga in Ireland; it’s yet another one of Ireland’s hidden treasures!  I have had the fortune of training under some truly inspired and gifted teachers. I trained as a teacher with Carol Murphy of Green Lotus Yoga, Co. Galway. This training is a 220 hour training recognized by The Yoga Alliance. I also trained as a teacher in Core Strength Vinyasa with Sadie Nardini.

Outside of formalized yoga training I avidly continue to study anatomy and human movement. In all my physical pursuits, be it yoga, surfing, jiu jitsu, or any given system. I am enthralled with the mechanics of the human body. It goes beyond a single system of movement; it’s the art of understanding the leverage of our skeletal structure, which muscles to engage for the best effect, our changing relationship to gravity…..

But what makes yoga so unique is not just the physical, it’s the way we unite the many aspects of the self through conscious exploration, breathwork and meditation.

I have worn many hats as a teacher in my life experience, professionally teaching swimming, surfing, and Irish music and dance. I have always had a love of watching others growing their skills, and now apply it to the yoga mat…. I bring all of this past experience into the studio to give you an empathic, perceptive and positive class experience!

Namaste, Sara Cory

Finding the Class For You

Our Beginning Yoga Class is alignment based, educational and (hopefully) challenging! Go at your own pace; yoga is practiced for you not the person on the other mat! Explore your abilities safely and with skilled guidance in our studio.

Level 1 – for those with a basic knowledge of alignment and postures, breath technique, core awareness, and are ready for a little stronger class.

Level 2-3 requires solid alignment, technique, familiarity with basic sequences and postures (sun salutes, warrior poses, etc.) as well as a bit of stamina. We will explore arm balances, more advanced back bends, inversions etc.

Core Strength Vinyasa Yoga is strong, fluid and fun! This class is about building core strength and awareness, sweating, and challenging your stamina! Core Strength Vinyasa Yoga is fluid, so the focus will be more on dancing with the breath and less on moving deeply into advanced poses. Healthy wrists and shoulders advised.

Gentle Yoga/Relaxation will focus on Pranayama (breath techniques), restorative and releasing yoga postures, and beginning meditation.

Private tuition is also available.

If you have a group of 8 or more it is possible to arrange a series of classes for your group. Feel free to contact us for more information.

What is Hatha & Vinyasa?

These names refer to the style and tone of the class. Vinyasa is more fluid, seeking a seamless transition through postures by working with the rhythm of your breath. Hatha is more alignment based. Emphasis is more greatly placed on muscle groups, technique and spending more time exploring a posture. I generally teach Vinyasa with an emphasis on moving from the core. At times I will empoly Hatha methods to get the most out of a given pose. It’s all about what works!

Weekend Retreats with Sara Cory!

I am very happy to be one of the resident teachers at The Little Yoga Cottage in Lahinch. This stunningly remodeled cottage is now a yoga retreat center with a live-in vegetarian chef, so we not only get the chance to do a lot of yoga, but get spoiled as well. I love teaching these weekends, because each one is special, and I have an opportunity to teach some of the aspects of yoga that we don’t get to explore in the studio setting…. check out The Little Yoga Cottage for more info.

I will be teaching on the following weekends:

April 6-9 (4 days!!)

April 20-22

July 27-30 (4 days!!)

Tai Chi with Johanna! Fridays 10:00 a.m.

Tai Chi is a traditional Chinese system of slow, gentle physical movements that are believed to facilitate the flow of Chi (life force) around and within the body, thus promoting good health, vitality and longevity.Practising Tai Chi regularly can improve co-ordination, relieve stress, promote fitness and overall well-being, relaxation and peace of mind. This class will incorporate gentle stretching, Chi kung (exercise with breath and movement) and the ancient art form of Tai Chi.There are many forms of Tai Chi, and the one Johanna will be teaching is Infinite Tai Chi, learnt from the Master Jason Chan.
